Overview
Boksy is an innovative e-reading and audiobook app designed to cater to both adults and kids, offering a diverse library of Macedonian and international books.
The app was established in the Swedish market and underwent a comprehensive redesign to cater to the Macedonian audience.
Problem Statement
Boksy initially entered the Macedonian market with an MVP that showcased promise, particularly with its kids profile. For a year, the app thrived, offering a platform for young readers but lacking a user interface and experience that truly resonated with the broader audience. Recognizing the potential for growth and improvement, the decision was made to embark on a comprehensive redesign journey.
Research and Evolution
To address these challenges, an extensive research phase was initiated, drawing insights from user feedback, market trends, and established psychological principles. The following laws and methodologies were instrumental in guiding the redesign process:
-
Serial Position Effect: Guided the arrangement of essential features, ensuring memorable and accessible elements within the redesigned interface.
-
Hook Method: Applied in the Explore page to captivate users' interest and encourage exploration, aligning with the Serial Position Effect.
-
Von Restorff Effect: Used to ensure key elements, such as the Self Challenge icon and Kids Mode toggle switch, stand out for better user recall.
-
Zeigarnik Effect: Incorporated by displaying percentages on cards, leveraging interrupted tasks to enhance user engagement.
-
Jacob’s Law: Ensured the redesigned app followed established design conventions to create a familiar and user-friendly interface.
-
Aesthetic-Usability Effect: Ensured that the redesign not only improved usability but also provided a visually pleasing and cohesive user interface.
-
Goal-gradient Effect: Leveraged to motivate users through self-challenges, creating a sense of progress and accomplishment.
-
Law of Common Region, Proximity, and Similarity: Applied to the card-based design, grouping related elements and enhancing overall visual cohesion.
Goals
The goal is to adapt the app's design and features to align with the cultural preferences and reading habits of the Macedonian audience. Introduce Boksy to the Macedonian market and attract a diverse user base by offering a compelling and tailored reading experience. Retain the core features that made Boksy successful in the Swedish market while incorporating big adjustments for the Macedonian audience.
